Unilorin Idol happened, and here’s a photograph that validates my claim—so it’s not lost on you, who wasn’t privileged to attend. I like to think this particular photograph captures the essence of the event. It’s not perfect, but as far as bearing witness to a time that once was, and immortalizing a crucial moment, it serves.

These two contestants—Simkeys and Benjamin—had just met. It was the first day of auditioning. In this image, they symbolize their meeting with a handshake. Ideally, there ought to be a gap between the two of them. But for the sake of the piano, these two are now in sync, so to say. Benjamin goes, ‘My name is Benjamin. What about you?’ Simkeys replies, ‘I’m Simkeys.’ And they both chorus, ‘It’s nice to meet you,’ with wide smiles.
